Grow Bed trial run

Half a day to fix the grow media and the siphon bell synchronized. Newbie trial and error the hard way. Notice the netting? The LECA Hydroton were naughty enough to wreck havoc on the intake.
Lesson # 52 - Intake Screen to be of slit type instead of drill holes.

Still finding the right cycle balance, with my siphon bell not flushing as it should be. 

  Growbed (empty) volume : 15cmX12cmX2m (gutter size) = 0.036m3=36liter

  Effective Volume (+growmedia) :36x60%=21liter

  1200liter/hour = 20liter/minute

  1 minute ebb & dry cycle is not that ideal

Pump Test and Modification

15watts Pump 1200L/hr

Simple 40/20 reducer at the outlet resulting in my bell siphon flushing better thus I can now add back the extension making intake level higher by 15mm.

Average 2-3 minutes ebb n dry cycle.

Next the grow media.

Media Bed and Siphon

The Grow bed is done.
Tinkering with the ebb & dry system and diy bell siphon.

Didn't seemed to flush well so I tried with the p-trap siphon, still didn't flow out well.
After further reading and youtube search, found out the water vol in pvc gutter grow bed wasn't ideal enough for an efficient siphoning without further modification.

So back with the bell but with lower water level and now its flushing as expected. Lower water level intake will cause a shorter effective grow bed media depth. So I guess I have to choose what type of plants suitable for these setting.

Ebb & Dry systems done! Off with my sump systems next...
